Having that 'inner peace' that comes from God is what we need when life gets messy and complicated and painful.  But the peace that comes from God can show itself in very different ways depending on our circumstances... try these three:

1. While Waiting

We may be waiting for results or news, maybe about exams, or an interview or diagnosis from our doctor.  There is nothing we can do but wait.  But we play the 'what if' game... what if this, what if that, what if something else... and we drive ourselves into anxiety and worry and fear.

Knowing God's peace while waiting, means that we can trust God and wait to see what bridge he asks us to cross.  We don't have to play the 'what if' game - we can leave it with him.

2. In a Crisis

This time the 'what if' game is exactly what we need to play and we need to play it well!  Whether our business or our family or our church as come to an emergency and we need to prayerfully work out the way ahead, we need to explore every option a few times!  It may be right that we lose some sleep trying to work out the best way forward.  But even if the 'best' outcome isn't great, even if there are so many variables that it is hard to predict the route ahead, once we have prayerful done our planning, we can entrust our plans to God and go to sleep.  Knowing God's peace means we trust that whatever comes, God is looking after us.

3. Head in the Sand

It maybe that we have felt at peace for a long time, even though our families, our marriages or our finances are falling down around us.  We have adopted the 'ostrich head in the sand' position... We have a peace - but it is not real peace!  It's not God's peace.  This time the first thing we need to be is unsettled - we need to realise the mess we are in!  Only then as we prayerful work through the problems can we really know God's peace in the midst of the mess.
